New guidelines open Great Lakes Bible Camp to more children.
Campers are no longer required to earn an Awana award before being eligible for camp. GLBC is still an Awana themed camp following in the tradition of Great Lakes Awana Scholarship Camp. We still use Awana based curriculum and have high regard for Scripture study and memorization, but now GLBC is open to all children who would benefit.
Returning campers must have completed last year’s camp Bible study and Scripture memorization material. This year’s campers should plan to complete this year’s assignments at camp.
Age
Camp is split into two age groups, Trek and Journey. Trek is the Awana middle school youth program. Although not common in Illinois, some U.S. middle schools includes grades 6, 7, and 8. To accommodate these differences, Awana provides 6th grade curriculum both in Truth & Training (T&T) and Trek. Journey is Awana’s high school youth program.
Middle school campers must be at least 9 years old and high school campers must be at least 13 years old by the first day of camp. Bible study, Scripture memorization, physical activities (games), and cabin assignments are segregated by these age groups.
Trek Camp
Often called simply “middle school camp,” GLBC is open to even a wider age group that Trek. Great Lakes Bible Camp welcomes children who will be entering grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 beginning next fall – well beyond the typical middle school grades in Illinois. Please don’t hesitate to send your clubbers who are entering the 5th grade through the middle school grades. Parents and guardians should note that we recon camper grades by what they will enter next fall. So, if your child just graduated middle school, he or she should register for Journey (high school) camp.
Journey Camp
Also known as “high school camp,” GLBC welcomes campers who will be entering the 9th grade next fall, or entering grades 10, 11, and 12. And also for campers who have just completed the 12th grade this past spring – i.e. recent graduates.
GLBC uses the old Journey books for High School Bible Hour.
